Houston Methodist – Texas Medical Center

If you’re an experienced IOM technologist who’s ready to move beyond the vendor model, this is a rare opportunity to join a true in-house hospital neuromonitoring program at a world class facility.

Houston Methodist Hospital is hiring a Senior Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IOM) Technologist to join our established, physician-integrated team in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. Houston Methodist is the #1 ranked hospital in the state of Texas, consistently ranked #1 in Neurosurgery and Neurology, and was one of the first hospitals to perform intraoperative neuromonitoring.

For 2026, Glassdoor has ranked Houston Methodist at #9 among the Top 100 Places to Work nationwide and is ranked #1 in Healthcare, which is a reflection of the culture, autonomy, and long-term career support we offer.

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a vendor position. It’s a mature, well-supported in-house IOM program where technologists are treated as professionals and valued members of the clinical team.

What that means in practice:

  • Great pay with outstanding, hospital-based benefits
  • Exceptionally flexible PTO

    • Better accrual than most IOM roles
    • 100% rollover every year
    • 100% cash-out option
    • No PTO blackouts or holiday restrictions
  • Stable schedules and predictable workflows
  • A professional, independent, and laid-back atmosphere with high clinical standards

A Better Day-to-Day Experience

Our workflow is intentionally designed to support good medicine, not burnout.

  • No transporting equipment or supplies
  • Your own dedicated cart and equipment
  • Anything you need clinically, you get
  • Documentation is minimal, appropriate, compliant, and clinically meaningful... not repetative, excessive or punitive
  • Strong, collegial relationships with anesthesia and OR staff because we all work for the same institution

Clinical Exposure

You’ll work with over 20 surgeons at a single large hospital, covering a wide range of cases across:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedic spine and complex orthopedics
  • Plastic surgery
  • ENT
  • Vascular surgery

Monitoring includes comprehensive intraoperative modalities such as SSEPs, TcMEPs, free-run and triggered EMG, ABRs, phase reversal, and mapping as indicated.

Research & Academic Opportunities

We are an active research program. Importantly, the entire IOM team participates in research and is included in publications — technologists are collaborators and credited contributors, not observers.

For those interested, there are also opportunities to expand your skill set into:

  • EEG and Evoked Potentials
  • Stereotactic EEG (sEEG), including OR cases
  • Wada procedures

(These opportunities are available but not required.)

Qualifications

  • CNIM (ABRET) required
  • Minimum 2 years of intraoperative neuromonitoring experience
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and professionalism
  • BLS (American Heart Association)

Why Houston Methodist?

Houston Methodist Hospital combines the stability of a major academic medical center with a culture that genuinely respects its clinical staff. This is a place where IOM is integrated, supported, and taken seriously and where people tend to stay.

We don’t open senior positions often. When we do, it’s because we’re intentional about building a team people want to be part of long-term.
